Home Price Comparison Index
A Guide For Comparing Home Prices Across North America

How to Use the Index

The Home Price Comparison Index provides an index number that helps you quickly approximate how much your home would cost in any one of more than 280 markets across North America.

For example if you live in Peoria Illinois, in a home with a market value of $145,000, how much would it cost to replace it with a similar home in San Francisco, California?
Multiply the market value of your current home by the index number of the destination city where you plan to move, then divide that number by the index number of the market where your current home is located:

$145,000 x 288/79 = $528,607

To replace a $145,000 home in Peoria with a comparably-sized property in San Francisco, expect to pay approximately $528,607.
