Welcome to Hinesville,
Georgia!
Located along the Eastern coastline in southern Georgia,
Liberty County enjoys a warm climate with an average temperature of 75 degrees, fertile
soil, and access to waterways. These characteristics first attracted settlers in 1758.
Named for a commitment to independence, Liberty County has played an important role in
American history ever since the Revolutionary War. Button Gwinnett and Dr. Lyman Hall,
early residents of the area, are among the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Hinesville is the county seat and largest city in the
county. It is also home to Fort Stewart with which it shares a special relationship of
mutual cooperation. The presence of the active military installation has contributed
significantly to the growth of the area. The military installation occupies nearly half of
the County's 519 square miles and is the largest employer in the County.
The area offers an abundance of outdoor and recreational
activities. Fishing and water sports are available year round in the area's vast expanse
of coastal waterways and ponds. Fort Stewart boasts 28 lakes and ponds for military family
members, active-duty, retired, or reserve soldiers, and civil service employees. Hunting
enthusiasts will find dove, deer, and turkey. Several hunting clubs offer excursion
packages and hunting information.
History buffs will find historic battlefields and forts
from just about every century within minutes from the County. The Revolutionary War and
the Civil War are both represented. For those who wish to visit a larger city, Savannah
